Welcome to Udaipur – founded in 1553 by Maharana Udai Singh II as the new capital of the Mewar Kingdom. Famously known as the City of Lakes and often referred to as the Venice of the East, Udaipur is surrounded by azure lakes and nestled amidst the lush green hills of the Aravalli range.
Upon arrival at the airport, proceed to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
Overnight in Udaipur.
Today, we explore the charm and history of Udaipur. We begin with a visit to Maharana Pratap Smarak, a historic site located atop Moti Magri Hill near Fateh Sagar Lake. This memorial honours the great Maharana Pratap Singh and his loyal horse, Chetak.
Next, we visit the City Palace, an architectural marvel and the largest royal palace complex in Rajasthan, situated on the banks of Lake Pichola. We also explore the Crystal Gallery, known for its rare and exquisite crystal artefacts.
Later, enjoy a boat ride (direct payment) across Lake Pichola to reach Jag Mandir, a palace built on an island which once served as a summer retreat and royal party venue. In the evening, delight in a traditional Rajasthani music and dance show at Bagore Ki Haveli.
Overnight in Udaipur.
After breakfast at the hotel, we set out for a day trip to Kumbhalgarh Fort, located approximately 80 km from Udaipur (a 2-hour drive). This magnificent fort, cradled in the Aravalli hills, is the birthplace of the legendary Maharana Pratap. It boasts the second-longest wall in the world, after the Great Wall of China, and is the second most important fortress in the Mewar region after Chittorgarh.
Within the fort complex lies an impressive array of temples built by the Mauryas, with Badal Mahal (the Palace of Clouds) being particularly picturesque. For history enthusiasts, the light and sound show held at sunset is a must-see, bringing the legacy of the Mewar dynasty to life.
In the evening, return to Udaipur.
Overnight stay in Udaipur.
